Guregi applauds Babangida’s appointment to lead bank of agriculture

By Abbas Nazil

Alhaji Yahya Muhammad Guregi, African Continental Governor of the World Sustainable Development Goals Organization, has congratulated Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Babangida on his appointment as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BoA).

In a statement issued on Saturday, Guregi described the appointment as a strong indication of the Federal Government’s resolve to revitalise Nigeria’s agricultural sector, which he identified as a major pillar of the nation’s economy and a critical factor in ensuring food security.

According to him, Babangida’s extensive experience spanning both the public and private sectors makes him uniquely positioned to steer the Bank of Agriculture in the right direction during challenging economic times.

Guregi emphasised that Babangida’s previous accomplishments demonstrate a deep commitment to sustainable agricultural practices and strategic financial management, qualities that will be instrumental in reshaping the nation’s agricultural landscape.

He explained that the Bank of Agriculture is central to providing financial support to farmers, fostering agricultural innovation, and safeguarding Nigeria’s food supply.

Guregi stressed that with the country grappling with socio-economic issues such as unemployment and food scarcity, effective leadership at the Bank is crucial to overcoming these challenges.

He expressed confidence that under Babangida’s leadership, the institution will be able to expand access to finance, promote sustainable practices, create employment opportunities, stimulate economic growth, and bolster national food security.

The African Continental Governor called on government agencies, financial institutions, farmers, and other stakeholders in the agricultural value chain to work collectively in support of the new BoA chairman.

He stated that collaboration will be a key driver in transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector, boosting the overall economy, and improving the livelihoods of millions of households.

Guregi also urged local farmers and agricultural associations to engage directly with the Bank of Agriculture to take advantage of the resources, programs, and financial products it offers to enhance their productivity and profitability.

He noted that with the right partnerships and the mobilisation of available resources, the Bank can serve as a catalyst for agricultural growth that will not only benefit rural communities but also strengthen the nation’s resilience against food crises.

Guregi concluded by reaffirming his organisation’s support for initiatives that align with sustainable development goals, adding that Babangida’s leadership offers an opportunity to align Nigeria’s agricultural sector with global best practices while addressing local needs.
