The Agriculture/Agro-Wealth Development Initiative (AAWDI) has unveiled a blueprint aimed at supporting the Nigerian government’s efforts to achieve food sufficiency and security.
The initiative was launched at the National Green Revolution Summit 2025, held last Saturday in Abuja, with the theme: ‘Unveiling Strategies for Sustainable Agricultural Growth’.
Speaking at the event, AAWDI President and CEO, Hajiya Rekiya Amedu, emphasized that the project seeks to transform the agricultural sector by leveraging Nigeria’s natural and human resources.
She lamented that despite abundant arable land and water resources, Nigeria continues to be listed among nations battling hunger.
Amedu revealed that AAWDI’s strategy involves year-round farming, youth engagement, and innovative approaches to agriculture, using technology such as the AgroWealth App, which will deliver training in multiple local languages.
The organisation also plans to train young people in modern techniques, including hydroponics and organic farming.
To tackle insecurity affecting farmers, AAWDI announced plans to work closely with security agencies and empower local personnel within farming communities.
According to AAWDI National Director of Administration, Abubakar Abdullahi, hunger contributes significantly to Nigeria’s insecurity, and addressing food scarcity is essential for national stability.
Joseph Nduka, AAWDI’s National Director of Training and Strategy, pointed out policy-related barriers to agriculture, particularly the Land Use Act of 1978, which limits land access for farmers.
He stressed the need for government collaboration to dismantle these obstacles and ensure farming inputs reach grassroots farmers.
With operational structures already established across all 36 states and the FCT, AAWDI aims to implement its multi-dimensional strategies nationwide.
The organisation’s Smart Agricultural Support Training is expected to educate farmers on sustainable practices, with the overarching goal of positioning Nigeria as a global food hub.
