In Nigeria, the Great Green Wall Initiative (GGWI) has been a top priority of the government to address desertification and land degradation in the Sahel region. The National Agency for the Great Green Wall (NAGGW) was established to implement the GGWI in Nigeria.
Recently, the Director General of NAGGW, Dr Yusuf Maina-Bukar, launched a new initiative to engage the youth in the restoration and conservation of degraded ecosystems in the region. The National Youth Volunteer Programme (NYVP) is a new initiative designed to unlock, harness, and coordinate the vast potential of youth energy in the region into opportunities for achieving holistic nature-based solutions development and realization of the Great Green Wall vision in Nigeria.

With their passion, energy, and creativity, the youth can drive innovation and help NAGGW to develop effective solutions for the restoration and conservation of degraded ecosystems in the region.
