Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has initiated a strategic collaboration with Guardians Worldwide (GWW), an international environmental consultancy, to explore carbon credit opportunities under the Katsina Green Growth Agenda (KAGGA).

The meeting, held in Abuja, marked Governor Radda’s first official assignment after recovering from a minor accident.

He described carbon trading as a “new frontier” in climate finance and emphasized Katsina’s ambition to build a resilient, green economy through global partnerships.

The delegation from GWW included representatives from Brazil and Nigeria, led by Mr. Kamilu Hassan Hamza, Director of Guardians Worldwide Africa.

The group expressed readiness to help Katsina design a carbon credit roadmap aligned with international standards and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Governor Radda highlighted the potential of carbon credit initiatives to attract green financing, empower communities, and preserve the environment.

“This is about more than cutting emissions — it’s about creating an economy where sustainability and innovation drive growth,” he said.

The initiative is spearheaded by Hajiya Bilkisu Sulaiman Ibrahim, Special Adviser on Banking and Finance, alongside relevant ministries and departments.

A technical team will be established immediately to begin baseline assessments and develop a carbon credit registry suited to Katsina’s ecosystem.

Also present were top government officials, including Professor Al-Amin (Special Adviser on Climate Change), Dr. Faisal Umar Kaita (Commissioner for Lands), Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu Turaji (Principal Private Secretary), and the Governor’s Lead Consultant, Haroun Abba.

The partnership reflects Governor Radda’s commitment to environmental sustainability and innovative governance.
