Goji Berries

By Chisom Ibemere

Goji berries is also called wolfberries and they are small red berries which originated from China. They have rich nutritional profile with amazing health benefits which makes them to be a popular fruit.

They are packed with antioxidants, including vitamin C, zeaxanthin, and beta-carotene, which help protect against free radicals and oxidative stress.

Goji berries have been consumed by individuals to treat many common health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, fever, and age-related eye problems.

Goji berries, known by many as a “superfood,” maybe eaten raw, cooked, or dried (like raisins) and are used in herbal teas, juices, wines, and medicines.

GOJI berries contain high vitamin C content which helps strengthen the immune system and may ward off infections and illnesses.

The high composition of zeaxanthin and other antioxidants greatly contribute to eye health and protect against age-related macular degeneration. They help to combat aging by reducing oxidative stress and preventing damage to cells and DNA.

Goji berries are believed to have neuroprotective properties and may support brain health, potentially improving memory, focus, and overall cognition. They are rich in vitamins, minerals, and polysaccharides that boost energy and increase stamina.

Goji berries may help reduce cholesterol levels and support heart health by preventing oxidative damage and inflammation in the cardiovascular system. They are composed of hepatoprotective properties, helping to protect the liver from damage caused by toxins and promoting its healthy function.

The antioxidants and other nutrients in goji berries can contribute to healthy skin by reducing inflammation, promoting collagen production, and protecting against UV damage.
