Global Marine Community Commends Ex-NIMASA DG Achievements In Office

The Global Marine Community (GMC), has commended the immediate past Director General of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr Bashir Jamoh over his laudable achievements while in office.

The letter dated March 20, 2024 and signed by several maritime organizations, including BIMCO, ICS, INTERTANKO, INTERCARGO, and OCIMF, noted the innovative leadership of Jamoj, which brought about growth in the Industry.

The GMC stated that the number of attacks against vessels offshore and the kidnappings and killings of seafarers were significantly reduced due to the attention given by Jamoh to protect. seafarers.

The organization particularly mentioned the innovation brought by Jamoh, which included the establishment of the SPOMO Act, the Deep Blue Project, the Maritime Collaboration Framework (MCF)/ShadeGulf of Guinea (GOG), and the NIMASA/Industry Joint Working Group (NIGWG).

The letter read in part: “On behalf of thr Global Marine and Shipping Community, the signatories of this letter wish to convey their sincere and heartfelt thanks for all you achieved during your tenure as Director General of NIMASA.

“There are many milestones worth noting but the introduction of the SPOMO Act, the Deep Blue Project and your personal leadership in establishing the Maritime Collaboration Framework (MCF)/ShadeGulf of Guinea (GOG), and the NIMASA/Industry Joint Working Group (NIGWG) are testament to your legacy.

“We know you will not wish this work to stop and we will do all we can to maintain the momentum you created.

“The number of attacks against vessels offshore and the kidnappings and killings of seafarers is significantly reduced due to the attention you gave to protecting seafarers.”

Reacting to the Letter, Jamoh in his verified X handle, expressed joy over the recognition.

“I am thrilled to receive this commendation letter from the Global Marine Community upon successful completion of my term in office as DG/CEO of NIMASA.

“It is the result of dedication, patriotism and team work. I am appreciative to my team and dedicated the commendation to them, without whom this cannot be achieved,” he stated.
