Germany prepares for extreme summer heat

By Abdullahi Lukman

Germany is facing a surge of extreme summer heat this week, with temperatures expected to approach 40 degrees Celsius by midweek, according to the German Weather Service (DWD).

On Monday, August 11, 2025, DWD reported that temperatures would steadily rise over the coming days, peaking between Wednesday and Friday before thunderstorms bring potential relief.

Southern regions began the week with clear skies and temperatures reaching up to 32 degrees Celsius.

By Tuesday, highs are forecast to climb to between 30 and 36 degrees, especially in the south, with overnight temperatures remaining above 15 degrees.

The heat will expand north-eastward by Wednesday, where temperatures could reach between 31 and 38 degrees.

Forecasters have issued warnings for strong heat stress, particularly in the south-west.

While the majority of the country will remain sunny, isolated showers may develop in higher elevations of the southern regions.

The hot spell is expected to persist until Friday, when widespread thunderstorms are likely, marking the beginning of a potential cooldown.
