Lauren Bell is a two-time silver medallist in the team sprint event at the track European Championships

Great Britain’s women won silver in the team sprint on day one of the European Track Cycling Championships as the men’s team took bronze.

The trio of Lauren Bell, Rhian Edmunds and Rhianna Parris-Smith finished in 46.929 seconds to take second place in the event for a third consecutive year and win Britain’s first medal of the 2025 championships.

The Dutch team took the top podium spot in Heusden-Zolder, Belgium, winning the gold medal race in 46.322 secs.

Bell was part of the women’s sprint team who won silver in 2023, but Edmunds and Parris-Smith were making their elite debuts.

The men’s sprint team of Harry Ledingham-Horn, Hayden Norris and Harry Radford took bronze ahead of the Czech trio, finishing in 43.152 secs, while France won gold and the Netherlands took silver on the first of the five-day championships.

Meanwhile, Anna Morris finished fifth in the women’s scratch race, while William Perrett finished eighth in the men’s elimination race.

Both the men’s and women’s team pursuit squads qualified for their respective first-round races on Thursday.
