The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has cautioned motorists nationwide to exercise caution due to hazy weather conditions causing poor visibility on major highways.
The Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, said in a statement on Tuesday that the dust haze, caused by seasonal atmospheric conditions, poses serious risks to road users.
Ogungbemide quoted the Corps Marshal, FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, as saying that reduced visibility affects drivers’ reaction time and increases the risk of road traffic crashes.
Mohammed advised motorists to reduce speed, maintain safe following distances and ensure that headlights, tail lights and brake lights are functional and properly used, even during the daytime.
He also warned against wrongful overtaking, over-speeding and distracted driving, while urging commercial drivers to prioritise passenger safety and comply strictly with traffic regulations.
