Former Minister of State, Mines and Steel development, Sampson Ugah has called on Nigerians to create wealth by learning the art of turning waste to wealth, which is a venture capable of enriching many people.
Ugah spoke during the investiture of Rotarian AlozieNsirimobi as the 39th President of Rotary Club of Gbagada, District 9110, Rotary International, at Events Centre, Agidingbi, Ikeja, Lagos.
He adviced Nigerians to stop disposing waste and embrace recycling which is the new way to go, serving a dual purpose of protecting the environment and enriching many.
He commended Nsirimobi for choosing to train about 60 youths from Ojodu Local Council Development Area on how to convert plastics to tiles, convert tyres to furniture and convert food wastes to cooking gas, during his tenure.
He stressed that the initiative has the capacity to expand when the trained youths start making money. He advised Nigerians against disposing their wastes indiscriminately, as recycling of waste can turn the tide of poverty in their lives.
In his remarks, Nsirimobi said that the best way to make the environment clean is by turning waste to wealth. He said: “ We are also playing a leading role in Rotary Foundation, by donating N5 million to District Education, Welfare Endowment Fund (DEWEF) and sponsoring 41 students to Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), as well as offering help to the girl child.”
