Food Security has Improved in Nigeria – Minister

The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, has reviewed the Tinubu administration’s ongoing agricultural sector reforms and declared: food availability and affordability have now improved across the country.
The minister, alongside the Deputy Senate President, Senator Jubril Barau, spoke at the “Alubarika 1.0 Agricultural and Human Capital Development Empowerment Programme” in Ilorin, Kwara State, where they both underscored the critical role agriculture plays in national development.
The praised the ongoing agricultural reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing that these efforts are yielding the desired outcomes.
Barau emphasized that agriculture and human capital development are fundamental to a nation’s growth, stressing that food security is a vital pillar of society’s survival.
He praised the efforts of Senator Salihu Mustapha, who organized the event, for his contributions to agricultural advancement as the chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee.
Barau also praised Mustapha’s leadership, recognizing his ability to connect with all senators and his commitment to advancing Kwara’s interests.
He acknowledged the work of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in ensuring the success of these initiatives, which align with the president’s goal of providing food security for all Nigerians.
Senator Mustapha, who organized the empowerment event, explained that the program is aligned with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
He emphasized the importance of training and empowering individuals, particularly women, to maintain, repair, and install solar panels, as part of a broader effort to equip beneficiaries with valuable entrepreneurial skills.
He highlighted that this empowerment program was not just about distributing tools but also providing comprehensive training, making the recipients more self-reliant.
The event, which took place at the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority’s premises, saw the distribution of various empowerment materials, including 250 deep freezers, tricycles, live cows, grinding machines, tractors, university scholarships for 200 students, and power transformers, among others.
Over 2,500 constituents from Kwara Central were beneficiaries of the program.
