Flood wreaks havoc in Plateau, over 80 households displaced

The Langtang South Local Government Area of Plateau State has been struck by severe flooding, displacing over 80 households and leaving many residents without shelter.

Torrential rain which began on Friday continued through Sunday and inundated several areas, with Sabo Gari particularly hard hit.

An eyewitness who simply identified himself as Solomon, explained that the chaos unfolding in the community saying, “The flood didn’t claim any lives, but its impact was immense. Many families have lost their homes and are now seeking refuge with relatives.”

Community leader Yintim Nimilam has called on the state government and philanthropic organizations to provide immediate assistance to those affected. “We urge the government and relevant authorities to come to our aid.

This incident has left many displaced and uncertain about their future,” he stated.
Attempts to contact Sunday Abdu, the Executive Secretary of the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency, for comments were unsuccessful as his phone was switched off.

This incident adds to a growing pattern of flooding in Plateau State, where a recent report indicated that 65 communities were affected by similar disasters in July.

Local officials are emphasizing the need for urgent action to address environmental management and support for those displaced by flooding.
