Flood: Council boss visits affected communities, warns against building on waterways

The Chairman, Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Mr Joshua Yekpowudu, has urged residents of the area to avoid building on waterways.

This, he said, was in their interest and to avoid flooding in the area.

The council boss gave the advice on Wednesday in Obi when he undertook assessment visit to communities ravaged by flood on Aug. 26.

Yekpowudu, who sympathised with the victims of the flood, advised residents of the area to avoid building on waterways to avert recurrence.

The council boss called on the state government and other well spirited individuals to come to the aid of the victims to improve on their standard of living.

He appealed for the reconstruction of the damaged three bridges linking Agwade-Shupe-Ome-Obi road to enable farmers and other residents to transport their farm produce with ease.

He also urged the people of the area to live in peace, be their brother’s keepers and tolerate one another irrespective of their affiliations.

He restated his continued commitment to key into positive policies and programmes that would have direct bearing on the lives of the people of the area.

The Overseer of Daddere Development Area, Mr Dauda Danladi, while conducting the council boss round the affected areas, appreciated his efforts for his prompt response when the incident happened.

He also called on the state government and other relevant agencies to come to the  assistance of the flood victims.

He also visited Daddere and Tudun Adabu communites where many houses and farm produces, among others, were destroyed.
