Firm to raise N900m for agribusiness, others in Nigeria

By Abdullahi Lukman

Proven Financial Services Limited has unveiled plans to raise N900 million through a combination of private placement, land sales, and contributions from its directors to fund its expansion into agribusiness, housing, and education.

The initiative is designed to empower farmers, address Nigeria’s housing deficit, and transform agribusiness education in the country.

At a press conference in Abeokuta, Group Managing Director of the firm, Olufemi Ogbiyele outlined the company’s funding strategy.

He said of the N900 million, N600 million will come from equity sales, N300 million from the sale of 300 plots of land, and N70 million from contributions by the company’s seven directors, each committing N10 million.

Ogbiyele emphasized the firm’s goal of empowering 250,000 farmers across Nigeria by providing them with essential inputs, training, and financial support to boost food production and foster agricultural sustainability.

A central part of the initiative is Agribusiness University, Yewa (AUY), which will be Africa’s first private university dedicated exclusively to agribusiness. Scheduled to open in early 2026, AUY aims to focus on practical, income-generating education.

The university is to provide training in large-scale farming, agribusiness management, and food processing through its Agribusiness University Farm City.

Unlike traditional universities, which emphasize theoretical learning, AUY is to allow students to gain hands-on experience and earn income while studying.

The university will also address the shortage of skilled workers in Nigeria’s agricultural sector by equipping students with both financial and technical skills needed to launch and scale agribusiness ventures.

Ogbiyele stated, “Agriculture is the backbone of Nigeria’s economy, yet it remains underdeveloped due to a lack of skilled manpower and innovation,” adding, “AUY will fill this gap by producing agripreneurs capable of driving the sector forward.”
