Firm launches electric van to advance mobility in Nigeria

By Abbas Nazil

NEV Electric Motors has introduced the NEV T3, an electric mobility van designed to strengthen electric transportation in Nigerian cities and support the transition away from petrol-powered vehicles.

The company unveiled the model as part of its broader strategy to expand locally engineered electric vehicles and develop charging infrastructure across urban transport corridors.

The NEV T3 builds on the performance of its earlier model, the NEV T6, which the firm says has already transported thousands of passengers across urban routes while reducing fuel costs and eliminating tailpipe emissions.

According to the company’s founder and Chief Executive Officer, Mosope Olaosebikan, the new vehicle was developed to meet the specific demands of African road conditions and urban transport needs.

He stated that the success of the NEV T6 demonstrated that electric mobility can function effectively within the Nigerian transport system, paving the way for improved and more efficient models such as the T3.

The company aims to support wider adoption of electric vehicles across Nigeria and other parts of Africa by focusing on local assembly, engineering adaptation, and infrastructure development.

In addition to vehicle manufacturing, NEV Electric Motors has started deploying electric vehicle charging stations in selected urban areas and key transport routes to ensure users have reliable access to power for their vehicles.

Industry stakeholders emphasize that the combination of affordable locally assembled electric vehicles and dependable charging networks will be critical to accelerating clean mobility in the country.

Experts note that electric vehicles generally offer lower operating and maintenance costs compared to conventional petrol-powered vehicles while significantly reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions.

The NEV T3 is designed for passenger transport, corporate mobility services, and urban logistics operations, with features tailored to withstand frequent use on challenging road networks.

Its engineering focuses on durability, energy efficiency, and reduced maintenance requirements, making it suitable for commercial fleet operators and transport companies seeking cost-effective alternatives.

With growing urban populations and rising fuel prices, electric mobility solutions are increasingly being considered as practical alternatives for cities such as Lagos and Abuja.

Stakeholders believe that government support, private sector investment, and infrastructure expansion will determine the pace at which electric vehicles become mainstream in Nigeria.

The launch of the NEV T3 also reflects a broader movement within the transport sector to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuels and promote cleaner domestic technology development.

Transport industry analysts argue that local production of electric vehicles can stimulate job creation, technical skill development, and industrial growth while improving environmental outcomes.

As more charging stations are installed and awareness of electric mobility increases, adoption rates are expected to grow steadily among businesses and individual users.

The introduction of the NEV T3 signals a strategic step toward building a sustainable transport ecosystem that integrates innovation, energy efficiency, and local manufacturing capacity in Nigeria.
