The Federal Government has officially transitioned the reconstruction of the 750km Sokoto-Gusau-Funtua-Zaria Road to concrete pavement to enhance its durability and long-term impact.
Minister of Works, Sen. Dave Umahi, made the announcement during an inspection in Dange-Shuni Local Government Area, Sokoto State, recently auguing that asphalt roads in Nigeria often fail within 15 years.
The minister said the decision to adopt concrete technology is to ensure the longevity of roads nationwide.
In addition, Umahi noted the progress on the 1,068km Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, a project conceived 47 years ago by former President Shehu Shagari.
He assured that the existing road would remain operational with asphalt while the new concrete lane is constructed, minimizing disruptions for motorists.
Minister of State for Works, Alhaji Bello Goronyo, described the road project as vital for commercial growth and regional security.
Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idris Gobir, confirmed that compensation for affected communities is nearing completion to endure project continuity.
