FG provides 370 public sanitation, 185 solar-powered water projects, says Engr. Adamu

Nigeria’s Minister of Water Resources, Engr. Suleiman H. Adamu has enumerated the projects executed by the Federal Government as part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s achievements in office.

The Minister, who disclosed this at a media parley in Abuja last night, noted that the water resources ministry under him leadership has delivered indelible assets to the country in the last seven and half years.

Engr. Adamu said Federal Government has constructed 370 public sanitation facilities and engaged 77,400 youths on advocacy to enable Nigeria achieve the Open Defecation Free (ODF) target of 2025.

He noted that although 83 Local Government Areas in the country have been certified Open Defecation Free, Jigawa is at the verge of becoming the first state to be certified as open defecation free in Nigeria.

He said the Federal Government also delivered 185 solar-powered water projects across the states of the Federation, adding that it is the States and Local Governments that have the primary responsibility for provision of portable water to cities, towns and communities in the country.

He said the Ministry has leased 253 farmlands to private sector for commercial farming out of which 182 are fully utilised under the River Basin Development Authorities, adding that 42 small dams have also been constructed.

The parley was attended by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Mrs Kenechukwu Offie who repressed the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary.

Other Directors who made presentations were Engr. Ali Dallah, Director of Dams and Reservoir Operations, and Mr. Emmanuel Awe, Director of Water Quality Control and Sanitation.

Presentations were also made by Engr. Danjuma Madaki, Director of Water Supply; Engr. Ronke Oluniyi, Director of Irrigation and Drainage; and Mrs . Alice Ojowu, Director of Water Resource Planning and Technical Support.
