By Abbas Nazil

The Nigerian government has reiterated its commitment to environmental sustainability and transparency in the execution of projects aimed at tackling ecological problems in the country.

The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Environment, Mr. Mahmud Adam Kambari stated this at the NEWMAP-EIB Project Coordinators’ Workshop held on May 14 in Abuja.

Represented by the Ministry’s  Director of Legal Services, Mrs.   O. A. Salako, the Permanent Secretary said the one-day workshop was intended to sensitise the coordinators ahead of the official launch of the NEWMAP-EIB Project.

Mr. Kambari said the project was not merely an initiative but a solemn promise to mitigate environmental degradation, particularly erosion, and to foster long-term sustainability and resilience across Nigerian communities.

The Permanent Secretary, who lauded the commitment of the state representatives, acknowledged their active roles and dedication to effective project implementation.

Highlighting the critical importance of procurement to the success of any development project, the Permanent Secretary noted that it serves as the backbone of implementation.

He stressed the need for all stakeholders to align strategies that guarantee efficiency, transparency, and tangible impact.

Mr. Kambari also called for robust engagement, exchange of ideas, and open discussions to ensure that the procurement framework meets the highest standards of excellence.

The Permanent Secretary described the upcoming launch of the NEWMAP-EIB Project as a significant milestone that must go beyond the mere ceremony.

According to him, the event should serve as a powerful catalyst for meaningful action, innovation, and measurable change that will positively influence millions of lives in the country.

Mr. Kambari, who urged the participants to engage actively in the workshop agenda, emphasised the importance of partnership, mutual learning, and shared vision in achieving the objectives of the NEWMAP-EIB Project.

He said the success of the initiative relies on the collective will and commitment of all coordinators and stakeholders.

He said participants must remain focused and inspired throughout the workshop, reminding them that their efforts today will contribute to a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come.

The workshop signals a crucial step forward in the implementation of the NEWMAP-EIB Project, as stakeholders work together to ensure that the project delivers maximum benefits across the states involved.
