FG Partners UAE Red Crescent to Address Humanitarian Crisis in Nigeria

The United Arab Emirates Red Crescent Authority is set to collaborate with the Federal Government in implementing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on Humanitarian Response in Nigeria.
Dr. Betta Edu, the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, announced the partnership during her visit to H.E Hammoud Al-Junaibi, the Secretary General of the UAE Red Crescent, on the sidelines of COP28.
Commending the UAE Red Crescent’s impactful contributions in the region, Edu emphasized the need to expand their intervention to Nigeria and other African countries.
She expressed gratitude for the support in realizing the Renewed Hope Agenda and presented a blueprint, the “Renewed Hope Strategic Roadmap for Humanitarian Response and Poverty Alleviation,” endorsed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The strategic roadmap aims to establish a nationwide humanitarian response system capable of effectively addressing emergencies, improving the lives of affected individuals, and providing social safety nets during humanitarian crises.
Edu highlighted that the partnership with the UAE Red Crescent Authority would significantly enhance these interventions.
Acknowledging the complexity of the task, Edu stated, “The Federal Government, through the Ministry, is eager to collaborate with the United Arab Emirates Red Crescent Authority and your global team to achieve durable solutions to some of the challenges within our mandate.”
The roadmap outlines a comprehensive program focusing on critical areas such as durable shelter, nutrition, health, safe water, grants for vulnerable populations, livelihood support, Regional Humanitarian Hubs, and assistance for out-of-school children in conflict-affected areas.
Edu emphasized the commitment of the Ministry to collaborate with reputable international organizations to implement the ambitious strategic roadmap, with a target of reaching approximately 3 million individuals affected by conflicts, natural disasters, and emergencies across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
In response, H.E Hammoud Abdullah Al-Junaibi, the Acting Secretary General of UAE Red Crescent Authority, expressed the organization’s pleasure in working with Nigeria to fulfill humanitarian and poverty alleviation goals.
He highlighted the authority’s readiness to partner with Nigeria and outlined specific areas of collaboration, including the establishment of Regional Humanitarian Hubs, durable shelter, nutrition, safe water, access to quality healthcare, and grants for vulnerable populations.
