The Federal Ministry of Youth Development, National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) and Niger State government have teamed up to empower 100,000 youth farmers in the state to boost agricultural production.
Ayodele Olawande, the Minister of Youth Development, Governor Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State, Mr. Sammy Adigun, Chairman of Niger Foods, and NALDA’s CEO, Cornelius Oluwasegun Adebayo, signed an MoU to this effect, Thursday, March 6 in Minna.
This initiative aims to cultivate 500,000 tons of food, with participants expected to earn approximately N150,000 in their first year, setting the stage for greater financial growth in the coming years.
Olawande praised the initiative as a vital step toward addressing the pressing issues of food security and youth empowerment in Nigeria.
“This partnership not only aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda but also reinforces our commitment to building a more robust agricultural sector,” he stated.
Adebayo, NALDA chief, emphasized the strategic importance of Niger State for agricultural development, noting its potential as a leading model for similar initiatives across the country.
“By focusing on youth, we are investing in the future of agriculture in Nigeria,” he said.
Governor Bago described the agreement as a significant achievement that leverages the potential of Nigerian youth.
“This initiative will unlock opportunities for our young people, enabling them to thrive in agriculture with minimal support,” he said.
