FG, IFAD Collaborate to Boost Agricultural Productivity in Nasarawa

The Federal Government, in collaboration with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), took a significant step towards enhancing food security in Nasarawa State.

Allocating farming inputs to 619 farmers for the 2023/2024 dry season farming on Wednesday, the initiative aims to empower farmers across key local government areas, including Lafia, Doma, Nasarawa, and Karu.

National Programme Coordinator, Fatima Aliyu, speaking in Lafia, emphasized the importance of this endeavor in increasing farmers’ capacities and ensuring an ample harvest to support the growing population in the region.

Represented by Shehu Hamza, Aliyu expressed gratitude for the farmers’ commitment to training and adoption of new technologies, acknowledging their improved performances.

The state Commissioner for Agriculture, Umar Dan’akano, praised the FG and IFAD for initiating the program and urged beneficiaries to use the provided equipment effectively.

He reassured the state government’s continuous support to ensure the success of the program, emphasizing its impact on rice and cassava production, as well as the well-being of local farmers.

Eunice Adgidzi, the state Programme Coordinator of the FGN/IFAD Value Chain Development Programme (VCDP), highlighted the support provided to 48 agricultural institutions, with 6,150kg of improved rice seeds, 738 bags of fertilizers, and 246 liters of herbicides distributed among the 619 beneficiaries.

Expressing gratitude on behalf of the farmers, Sabo Mageni thanked the FG and IFAD for their assistance, pledging to utilize the agricultural inputs judiciously.

The event marks a significant stride towards sustainable agricultural practices and food security in Nasarawa State.
