FG Begins Construction of Access Road to Second Niger Bridge

By Faridat Salifu

The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced the construction of a 17.55-kilometre access road to the Second Niger Bridge in Asaba, as announced by the Ministry of Works.

This project, part of the Phase 2A development, aims to strengthen connectivity between the South-South and South-East regions, fostering economic growth and enhancing national integration.

The announcement, recently published on the Ministry of Works’ website, highlights the significance of the project in improving regional infrastructure.

During the flag-off ceremony, Minister of Works Sen. David Umahi, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to enhancing road infrastructure across the country.

He commended the Delta State Government for its proactive approach to development, referring to the state as a “construction site” due to the various ongoing projects, including three major flyovers in Warri.

This initiative is expected to not only facilitate easier movement of goods and people but also stimulate economic activities in the connected regions, thereby contributing to national development goals.

As the construction progresses, stakeholders anticipate that the new access road will significantly enhance travel efficiency and promote trade, ultimately benefiting the local economies in both the South-South and South-East zones.
