FCTA task force begins enlightenment, enforcement of COVID-19 protocols

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) COVID-19 Protocols Enforcement Task Force has begun enlightenment and enforcement of safety protocols in strategic places within the territory to halt the spread of the pandemic.

Chairman of the task force and FCT Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma, told newsmen at an enforcement exercise on Tuesday that the measure was re-introduced following the upsurge in infections as a result of a second wave of the virus.

He said the measures were put in place to save people from contracting the virus, especially in public places, while lamenting that most people don’t use face masks and some drivers were not observing social distancing as they overload their vehicles.

Ciroma, who led the combined team of key security agencies, said it was the responsibility of all security personnel to go out and ensure that members of the public comply with the safety measures.

The chairman said that with the commencement of enforcement, there would be adequate enlightenment, admitting that most residents were no longer adhering to the laid down safety protocols.
