The Permanent Secretary, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) – Mr. Olushade Adeshola, hàs called for more environmental issues awareness to make individuals contribute to the environment sustainably.
Adeshola said while speaking with journalists on Monday during the celebration of World Environment Day organized by Abuja Environment Protection Board (AEPB).
With the theme of this year’s World Environment Day, “Only One Earth”, the permanent Secretary said “today has drawn the attention of the state of our environment that will help us re-think on how we need to attend to our environment. A day that draw our consciousness to the area that is more importantly.
While encouraging the public on maintaining a sustainable environment, Adeshola said, “As an individual, it is paramount to protect the environment by halting the habit of dump waste in undesignated areas, paying of service charge in due time clearing of sewage and drainages in our environment.”
In his welcoming address, Engr. Osama Braimah said our planet must come first to achieve a lot.
“Environment is essential for all of us regardless of our social status or where we live. There’s a need for us to wisely manage nature and ensure equitable progress in services, especially for the most vulnerable people and communities.”
Mr. Igwezuike Ijeoma who gave a lecture that focuses on climate change said “as we celebrate World Environment Day 2022, every one of us should take personal responsibility to save the earth.
“Illegal cutting down trees means we are harming ourselves because trees produces oxygen and take away carbon dioxide – main causes of climate change.” He said.
He therefore appealed to the FCT administration to recreate the framework of the environmental laws to tackle illegal cutting down trees in Abuja.
