The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has launched the State of the World’s Land and Water Resources for Food and Agriculture Report 2025.

FAO launched the report on 1 December 2025 during the 179th session of the FAO Council.

The report provides an update on the status of land, soil, and water resources, highlighting the challenges to their sustainable use and opportunities to increase food production sustainably.

Organizers said the event showcased technical options and enabling solutions needed to boost food production while preserving vital natural resources.

The 2025 report focuses on the theme: “The Potential to Produce More and Better,” emphasizing the hidden and untapped potential of land, soil, and water to support sustainable agricultural production for a growing global population.

It presents practical examples and actions for the sustainable management of resources and identifies key enablers for transformative solutions to build efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems.

FAO officials noted that the launch aims to guide policymakers, investors, and practitioners toward strategies that enhance both productivity and environmental sustainability.
