Expert Calls for Nationwide Shift Towards Sustainability

Dr. Peter Ekweozoh, a distinguished environmental scientist and advocate, has issued a compelling call for a nationwide transformation of values and attitudes to propel Nigeria towards sustainability.
Addressing a diverse audience of experts, professionals, and representatives from various sectors at a webinar organized by the Centre for Climate Change and Development (CCCD) at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State, in collaboration with the World Resources Institute (WRI) based in Washington, USA, Dr. Ekweozoh emphasized the urgent need for attitudinal change and discipline across society.
Commending the research efforts of CCCD-AEFUNAI, led by Professor Chukumerije Okereke, Dr. Ekweozoh particularly highlighted their exploration of a just energy transition for Nigeria and stressed the importance of aligning future plans with global low-carbon imperatives.
Advocating for a holistic national strategy, Dr. Ekweozoh underscored the imperative to leverage Nigeria’s abundant human and material resources to enhance global competitiveness.
He expressed concern over the underutilization of policies aimed at promoting value addition, citing the stalled implementation of the National Policy on Methanol Fuel Production Technology as a missed opportunity for economic growth and job creation.
Moreover, Dr. Ekweozoh emphasized the necessity for significant investments in technology and innovation to drive diversification, create employment opportunities, and foster economic growth while transitioning towards a cleaner and greener economy.
