EU to provide more aid to Ukraine, Moldova ahead of winter
The European Union is to provide Ukraine and Moldova with an additional 175 million euros (171.4 million U.S. dollars) in humanitarian aid and send winter-proof shelters to Ukraine.
EU Commissioner Janez Lenarčič announced in Kiev on Thursday that the upcoming winter was likely to bring major challenges to Ukraine and preparations must be made.
“A temporary shelter capacity will be immediately deployed to three different regions in Ukraine: Rivne, Bucha and Kharkiv,” he said.
The EU would also “boost its humanitarian aid funding with a further 175 million euros to provide education, food, access to water, and protection from the cold winter for the most vulnerable, he added.
Since the beginning of Russia’s invasion, the EU had provided humanitarian aid worth 485 million euros to Ukraine and 38 million euros to Moldova, according to the European Commission.
