Ethiopia Unveils Digital Agriculture Roadmap

By Abbas Nazil

Ethiopia has launched the Digital Agriculture Roadmap (DAR) 2025-2032, aimed at modernizing the country’s agricultural sector through digital technology.

The roadmap seeks to integrate digital solutions across rural communities, enhancing farmers’ access to real-time data, financial services, and improved market linkages.

The announcement was made in Addis Ababa during an official event attended by key government officials, including Minister of Agriculture, Girma Amente.

According to Amente, the roadmap is a transformative step toward a more efficient and technologically advanced agricultural system.

He emphasized that DAR is more than a strategic document—it is a lifeline for farmers and pastoralists* offering them tools to increase productivity and economic stability.

A key objective of the initiative is to digitalize agricultural data, providing farmers and herders with essential market information that can enhance decision-making, optimize production, and improve incomes.

The plan also focuses on strengthening financial accessibility, ensuring that farmers can benefit from digital banking and mobile payment systems to facilitate transactions and investments in their agricultural activities.

DAR aligns with the broader Digital Ethiopia 2025 strategy, which has already made significant progress in other sectors.

This new roadmap builds on that momentum, integrating digital services into agriculture to support sustainability and food security.

Central to the initiative are 25 key intervention areas, including the modernization of trade and market information, improvements in agricultural extension services, and enhanced financial access for smallholder farmers.

By leveraging technology, Ethiopia aims to create a more resilient and competitive agricultural sector, empowering millions of farmers with the tools they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital economy.

The roadmap is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the country’s future, ensuring that agriculture remains a key driver of national development.
