Environmentalists have presented a draft, proposing a climate change resilient policy before the Adamawa State House of Assembly.
The draft was presented by the Global Initiative for Food Security and Ecosystem Preservation (GIFSEP) and Adamawa Activist For Climate Justice, last Tuesday.
Presenting the draft, Executive Director of GIFSEP, Dr. Micheal David, pointed out that a lot of policies implemented at the federal level are often not adopted by states.
David emphasized the importance of focusing on climate resilience building and action at the grassroots level, where the population is concentrated and the impact of climate change is most strongly felt.

He also expressed gratitude to the Adamawa State House of Assembly for their welcoming approach and collaboration with civil society organizations in the state.
He said the move is a component of the #Vote4ClimateNG campaign, which seeks to encourage local governments to establish a system and infrastructure within their institutions to safeguard their environments from the effects of climate change.
Responding, the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Kate Raymond, who received the draft policy on behalf of the state House of Assembly, expressed the House readiness in domesticating the climate change policy in the state.
She stated that the proposed policy will be introduced in the House as a bill, and once it is approved, the governor will give their approval, noting that the House prioritizes environmental concerns.
She promised to personally persuade her colleagues to ensure that the draft legislation on climate change, derived from this policy document, is enacted promptly.
The Majority Leader further stated that the state government is deeply committed to addressing environmental and climate change concerns and expressed her confidence that the governor will ascent to the bill once passed by the House.
