The Federal Ministry of Environment has congratulated Engineer Dr. (Mrs.) Bahijjahtu Hadiza Abubakar, a distinguished woman leader in Nigeria’s civil service, on receiving the 2025 Presidential Distinguished Civil Service Career Award.

Engineer Hadiza, who currently serves as Director of Pollution Control and Environmental Health, was honoured during the 2025 Civil Service Week for her exemplary contributions to environmental protection and public health.

In his congratulatory message, the Honourable Minister of Environment, Mallam Balarabe Abbas Lawal, described her as a role model for women in public service and a driving force in the Ministry’s pollution control efforts.

He praised Dr. Hadiza for her deep commitment to advancing Nigeria’s environmental governance and called on her to continue inspiring young women in science, engineering, and public administration.

The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to building a resilient, inclusive, and sustainably managed environment driven by professionals like Mrs. Hadiza, whose work bridges policy and impact.

At the 2025 Civil Service Rewards and Recognition Night, Dr. Hadiza was one of 18 national honourees and received the highest distinction the Presidential Distinguished Civil Service Career Award.

The award includes an SUV, a plaque, a laptop, a certificate, a foreign short course, and access to a professional masterclass.

Engineer Hadiza’s recognition reflects her leadership in developing national strategies on air quality, environmental sanitation, hazardous waste management, and pollution response.

Over the years, she has played a central role in strengthening Nigeria’s regulatory systems and improving the health and safety of communities through data-driven environmental policies.

The ceremony was part of a week-long Civil Service Week programme organised by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, and featured participation from states, the private sector, NGOs, and international development partners.

The Ministry described Mrs. Hadiza’s award as a proud moment for the environment sector and a testament to the growing impact of women professionals in shaping Nigeria’s sustainable future.
