Engineers work overnight to restore water supply in southern scotland

By Abdullahi Lukman

Engineers are working through the night to restore water supply to thousands of customers in southern Scotland after a fault at the Rawburn Water Treatment Works disrupted services.

Nearly 5,000 customers in the Borders region—including Duns, Eccles, Eyemouth, Coldingham, and Chirnside—experienced low water pressure or no water.

About 300 properties were temporarily advised not to use water for drinking or cooking, though this advisory has since been lifted.

By 9 p.m. on Thursday, Scottish Water had restored supply to around 4,200 properties, with the remaining 1,800 expected to have water restored by early Friday.

Bottled water was distributed at various locations to support affected residents during the outage.

John Griffen, Scottish Water’s operations general manager, apologized for the inconvenience and assured that efforts would continue until all customers had their normal water supply restored.
