Empowering change through climate justice
By Grace Ademulegun
Adenike Oladosu has emerged as a ray of optimism and resilience in Nigeria, where the effects of climate change are now everyday realities rather than far-off threats.
Adenike, a climate activist, ecofeminist, and eco-reporter whose voice reverberates throughout Africa and beyond, was born in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, in 1994.
She is committed to finding answers for the problems plaguing her country and the African continent, and she is a tenacious supporter of youth empowerment and climate justice. She first came into contact with the hard reality of climate change while studying agricultural economics.
Adenike recognised the pressing need for action after seeing the hardships of communities reliant on natural resources, as well as droughts and floods.
She founded ILeadClimate, a pan-African organisation aimed at tackling the climate problem via empowerment, education, and activism, as a result of her passion.
Adenike has made eco-feminism a core component of her work, advocated for environmental education, and supported Lake Chad restoration through ILeadClimate.
Her initiatives give communities, women in particular, the means to become more resilient and adjust to a changing environment. She frequently asserts that “women are at the centre of climate change,” highlighting their vital role in community development, resource management, and food production.
Beyond campaigning, Adenike works to create sustainable solutions and promote a sustainable future. Insisting that real progress must put people and the environment before profit, her concept or “green democracy” blends human and environmental rights.
Adenike is optimistic despite the difficulties. Her efforts, which range from setting up seminars to empowering youth, have motivated a new generation of climate activists in Nigeria and throughout Africa.
Her message is unambiguous: achieving climate justice requires shared responsibility and is not a luxury.
Adenike Oladosu is a local hero who is inspiring the world and changing her neighbourhood.
She is more than simply a climate fighter; she is a symbol of transformation and resilience. Her relentless dedication serves as a reminder that those who dare to dream of a better future are the first to fight for our world.
