Egypt’s Minister to participate in preparatory conference for COP27

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry — who is also the President-Designate of the upcoming UN Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP27) — is heading on Sunday to the Congolese capital of Kinshasa to participate in a preparatory meeting for the COP27.

According to a statement by the ministry, the meeting comes within the framework of Egypt’s efforts to prepare for the substantive aspects of the COP27, as the meeting is the last stop at the ministerial level before the event is held in Sharm El-Sheikh this November.

The statement also revealed that the meeting will focus on the main topics to be addressed during the conference, most notably efforts to reduce emissions, adapt to the negative effects of climate change, climate finance, and losses and damage caused by climate change.

Also, on the side-lines of the meeting, Shoukry will participate in the forum of the countries most affected by the consequences of climate change.

Furthermore, he will hold bilateral meetings with ministers and climate envoys and a number of Congolese officials to discuss bilateral relations between the two brotherly countries.
