Egypt establishes first green road in Wadi El Hitan of Fayoum

By Nneka Nwogwugwu

Egypt Minister of Environment, Yasmine Fouad, on Monday has established the first green road in the nature reserve of Wadi El Hitan of Fayoum.

She added that the construction of the 34-kilometer road of Wadi Al-Hitan will depend on a new method of recycling and the use of environmental methods that reduce heat emissions, with preserving the natural color of the soil.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has put two Egyptian nature reserves of Wadi El Hitan and Ras Mohamed to the IUCN Green List of Protected and Conserved Areas, announced the Egyptian Minister of Environment at the Parliament in June 2021.

In July 2005, Wadi El Hitan was registered on the UNESCO World Heritage Site for its hundreds of fossils of some of the earliest forms of whale Archaeoceti, Egypt Today reports.
