Ebonyi Govt Declares July 1 as Sanitation Day, Implements Movement Ban

In an effort to promote cleanliness and mobilize residents for environmental preservation, the Ebonyi Government has officially designated Saturday, July 1, as sanitation day throughout the state.

A statement released by Mr. Victor Chukwu, the Commissioner for Environment, outlined the details of this initiative.

During the designated hours of 7 am to 10 am, the state will enforce a restriction on both human and vehicular movement across all areas.

This temporary suspension of activities aims to facilitate an intensive cleaning exercise and encourage active participation from residents. It is essential that all individuals maintain cleanliness in their compounds, drainages/gutters, and surroundings.

Except for those on essential duties, such as health officials and security personnel who possess valid identification, no other human or vehicular movement will be permitted. Additionally, all forms of sporting activities will be suspended during this period.

The statement emphasized that any violation of these regulations will lead to the arrest and subsequent prosecution of defaulters under the state’s Environmental laws. Security operatives and Ministry of Environment staff will collaborate to ensure compliance.

The Commissioner expressed the government’s dedication and determination to combat environmental degradation.

He appealed to the residents to actively assist the ministry in keeping the entire state clean and environmentally friendly for the well-being of all inhabitants.

Furthermore, the statement issued a stern warning against the indiscriminate disposal of refuse in unauthorized locations and
drainages within the state. It is crucial that residents adhere to proper waste disposal practices to maintain a clean and healthy
environment.
