Earth Treasures: Pearls

Pearls are hard, shiny objects produced within the mantles of shelled mollusks or other animals. They are made up of Calcium carbonate deposited in concentric layers. They are mostly round with smooth texture and may be seen in other shapes too.
The high quality natural pearls have great value as gemstones and are used for it’s aesthetic qualities. Pearls are metaphorically used to refer to something rare, admirable, fine and highly valuable.
Pearls occurs in two forms: Wild and Cultured Pearls. Wild or rare pearls are the most valuable and spontaneous while Cultured pearls are gotten from Pearl Oysters and fresh water Mussels which are mostly Sold or available in the market. Most Pearl Oysters are gotten, killed in most cases to produce a wild pearl and are mostly very expensive.
Pearls are harvested and farmed basically for the production of Jewelries and used in ancient times to prettify Clottings. They can be crushed and used for cosmetics, paint formulations and in Medicines.
