Fire agate is a type of chalcedony with unique characteristics. It is a semi precious natural gemstone which was discovered in Mexico. The major history of fire agate is unknown, and had been used in centuries in the jewelry industries.
The word “fire agate” results from the stones ability to exhibit iridescent flashes resembling flames when viewed from different angles. The stone is seen in volcanic rocks like basalt. It is majorly found in places like Mexico, Arizona, California, Oregon etc.
Fire agate is mostly used in jewelry and decorative items. It is often cut into cabochons or used to create unique beads. It is also used in spiritual and metaphysical healing practices.
Fire agate is a unique type of chalcedony which is translucent to opaque having a hardness of 6.5 to 7 on the Mohs scale. It has vibrant colors like red, orange, yellow, and brown.
Fire Agate has a very unique way of formation that produces iridescent rainbow effect of fire shown in the stone. This results when alternating layers of chalcedony and limonite or iron oxide create a diffraction grating, which brings about the separation of white light into different colors.
