Drought: Egypt, South Sudan strengthen water cooperation

Egypt’s Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hani Sweilem, embarked on an official visit to South Sudan, leading a high-level delegation.

The visit aims to enhance cooperation between the two countries and inaugurate several projects implemented by Egypt to benefit the citizens of South Sudan.

During his visit, Sweilem is scheduled to meet with the President of the Republic of South Sudan and engage in discussions with his South Sudanese counterpart, Pal Mai Deng.

Additionally, the Minister of Irrigation held a meeting to address water-related matters, including monitoring water levels, irrigation status, and maintenance of water facilities.

Sweilem emphasized the importance of monitoring the Nile River’s water levels and the main canals at the drinking water station intakes.

This ensures meeting the necessary levels and requirements for citizens’ drinking water, particularly during the high-demand summer period.
