Delta govt donates food, relief materials to 1,500 flood victims
Delta State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources donated food and relief materials to at least 1,568 flood victims at their Ogbeafor holding camp in Asaba on Saturday.
The commissioner, Dr Godfrey Enita, said the gesture was to complement donations by the state government and other good- spirited individuals for the welfare of the victims.
He encouraged the victims not to despair, but to remain positive as the flood would soon recede for them to return to their homes.
“While it hurts for one to be away from his or her home, the flood would recede in no distant time and victims would return to their various homes,’’ he said.
Receiving the times, the Camp Commandant, Mr Daniel Okpor, thanked the commissioner and the ministry for the gesture.
He said that catering to the needs of the 1,568 inmates at the camp was not easy and should not be left for the state government alone.
Okpor appealed to well-meaning people of the state to join the donors list to give food items, clothing and toiletries to the victims who arrived at the camp with nothing.
