Delta Governor Urges LG Councils to Prioritize Waste Disposal for Cleaner Communities

By Salifu Faridat

In a bid to ensure proper waste disposal and promote cleanliness within communities, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has called upon local government councils to take proactive measures.

The governor made this appeal during the inauguration of Ogwa Ukwu, Ahaba, in Oshimili South local government council on Thursday.

The historic Ogwa-Ukwu Ahaba has served as the central meeting place for the Asaba traditional institution for over a century, functioning as a parliamentary body within the Asaba traditional government and the office of the Otu-Ihaza, akin to the legislative arm of government.

Although represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Governor Oborevwori emphasized the significance of the project as a lasting legacy for the people of Asaba.

He expressed his hope that other local government councils would emulate such initiatives, delivering quality projects for their respective communities.

The governor reiterated his commitment to building on the achievements of past administrations, aiming to transform Asaba into a befitting state capital.

He assured the traditional ruler, Obi Edozien, that Asaba would continue to receive priority attention, with ongoing projects in the city and its environs being completed, and new ones initiated.

Appreciating the council chairman, Dr. Kelvin Ezenyili, for the construction of the edifice, Obi Edozien acknowledged that Ogwa-Ukwu is an extension of the palace, holding cultural and administrative significance.

In response, Chairman Ezenyili highlighted that the reconstruction of Ogwa-Ukwu Ahaba was driven by his vision for community development, infrastructure improvement, and effective governance.

He emphasized the importance of elected officials being passionate about the welfare of the people they serve.

Governor Oborevwori’s call to prioritize waste disposal and cleanliness echoes the growing concern for maintaining a hygienic environment in the state.

As the local governments take up the challenge, it is hoped that communities across Delta State will witness a positive transformation in their living conditions and overall well-being.
