Delta Economic Summit Group honours unsung heroes of COVID-19
The annual unsung heroes’ awards organized by the Delta Economic Summit Group (DESG) to recognize and celebrate individuals making an impact in their local communities took place at the Ibori Golf Club in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
The 2020 version, which was focused on those who rendered humanitarian support during the COVID-19 pandemic was organized during a charity golf tournament and award dinner by DESG, a private sector-led think tank that focuses on the socio-economic development of the state.
This was disclosed to journalists by DESG’s Director-General, Mr. Chukwuka Monye, who stated that this year’s presentation had 10 nominees and four of them won the humanitarian award.
According to Mr. Monye, “the 2020 unsung heroes’ awards focused mainly on those who rendered humanitarian support during the COVID-19 pandemic that devastated the entire country, with the likes of Hajiya Afeez Anuwa, a philanthropist who supported over 120 widows of police officers. She empowered them to be self-sufficient and provided their families with palliatives.

He added that also on the honours list were Mr. Henry Agwazim, Mr. Ediri Obaba, Mr. Zion Oshiobugie, Mr. Chris Oghenegueke, Mr. Elvis Akpobi and Dr. Austin Okogun.
