Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam Gworzo of Kano State has launched the Aliko Dangote Foundation’s N16 billion National Food Intervention Project, aimed at distributing rice to over one million vulnerable Nigerians.
The initiative, commencing in Kano, is to provide 10kg bags of rice across all 774 Local Government Areas nationwide.
Representing Governor Abba Yusuf, Deputy Governor Gworzo praised the foundation’s “unwavering commitment” to addressing poverty and hunger.
He highlighted the distribution of 120,000 bags of rice within Kano’s 44 local government areas, emphasizing Aliko Dangote’s “humane” approach to aiding those in need.
The project, spearheaded by the Aliko Dangote Foundation, seeks to alleviate the impact of current economic challenges.
Aliko Dangote, the foundation’s chairman, stated that “food remains a basic human necessity,” driving the foundation’s annual commitment to food distribution.
Represented by his daughter, Maria Aliko Dangote, he emphasized the project’s alignment with the foundation’s core values of compassion, solidarity, and shared responsibility.
To ensure transparency, the foundation is collaborating with state governments.
In Kano, a committee comprising relevant ministries, civil society organizations, religious leaders, and security agencies has been established to oversee the distribution.
The intervention will extend to other states, aiming to reach the most vulnerable individuals across Nigeria.
“We are collaborating with state governments to ensure that the food reaches the most vulnerable individuals in each state,” Dangote added.
This initiative reflects the foundation’s ongoing efforts to combat food insecurity in Nigeria.
