In a proactive move aimed at curbing smuggling activities and stabilizing the prices of essential commodities in Nigeria, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) recently intercepted 15 trucks laden with food items in Sokoto.
The interception, carried out along the Gwadabawa-Illela road in Sokoto State, was spearheaded by the NCS Sokoto Command.
Mr. Abubakar Chafe, the spokesperson for the command, revealed that the decision to intercept the convoy was prompted by the significant quantity of farm produce being transported by the trucks.

Presently, the seized trucks and their contents are in the custody of the Customs Command, where an intensive investigation is underway to ascertain the owners and intended destinations of the intercepted food items.
This operation, conducted through a collaborative effort involving the NCS Sokoto Command, officers from the Federal Operation Unit, and the Intelligent Unit of the Service, underscores a concerted approach to address the challenge of food inflation gripping the nation.
The coordinated efforts of these agencies highlight the seriousness with which the authorities are tackling the smuggling of food items, which is exacerbating the economic hardships faced by many Nigerians.
