Cucumber (Cucumis sativus) is an annual plant which originated from South Africa and spread on most continents. 

Cucumbers have low calories, fat, cholesterol, sodium but high water content. They help to relieve dehydration and best to eat during the hot season. Cucumbers have high water content with major electrolytes. They help prevent dehydration, constipation and eliminate kidney stones. 

Cucurbitacin is a bitter taste compound found in cucumbers which helps to stop the replication of cancer cells.

Cucumber are rich in fibre, potassium and magnesium. Fibre are essential to manage cholesterol and prevent cardiovascular diseases. Potassium and magnesium are helpful in the prevention of high blood pressure and atherosclerosis.

Nutrients in cucumber are beneficial for skin health. Peeled cucumber when placed directly on the skin can help to soothe the skin eliminating irritation, sunburn, swellings and damaged skin. 

Beta Carotene is a great antioxidants which fights or eliminates free radicals and harmful compounds from the body . Cucumber are rich in vitamin K which helps in clotting of blood and strengthening the bones. Vitamin A in cucumbers are good for improving Vision, immune system and reproductive health. It equally ensures that the vital organs like the hearts, kidney and lungs are functioning properly.
