Court Nullifies Osun Govt’s Closure of Local Mining Firm

The presiding Judge of a Federal High Court in Abuja, Justice Emeka Nwete, have reversed the decision of Osun State Government to shut down a local manufacturing company in the state.
The judge gave the order to this effect in a suit numbered: FHC/AB/5/1452024 filed against Osun State Government. Other defendants in the suit included the Attorney General of the Federation and the Minister of Solid Mineral Development.
The plaintiff, in the motion ex-parte dated and filed on October 2, 2024 and heard on October 3, prayed the court for an order of interim injunction restraining Osun State Government and its agents or officers from interfering with or distrupting the gold mining operations of the applicant.
The plaintiff also pray the court to restrain Osun State Government, its agents and officers from continue to deny the applicant access to its business premises or mining site in Osun State, pending the hearing and determination of applicant’s motion on notice for interlocutory injunction.
Delivering ruling, Justice Nwete ordered that Osun State Government should not deny the applicant access to its mining firm.
Last week, Osun State Government sealed up Segilola mining company for various tax evasions after obtaining an order from the Osogbo Magaistrate Court presided over by Segun Ayilara. The court heeded the state government’s request to restrain the local mining firm from operations following tax violations.
The Federal Government through the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development kicked against closure of the mining firm noting that such action my discourage foreign investments in the country.
