A Magistrate Court sitting in Bolade, Oshodi, has convicted 19 individuals for sanitation-related offences following prosecution by the Lagos Waste Management Authority.

Seventeen of the offenders, arrested for open urination and defecation, were each fined N40,000 or sentenced to one month imprisonment.

Two others, Obinna Nzugbe and Ifeanyi Ibe, received five-month prison terms after pleading guilty to indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed the development on Thursday, February 19, 2026. He said the convictions reflect the agency’s sustained enforcement of environmental laws across the state.

According to him, another defendant, Daniel Alfred, who was arraigned alongside the two convicts for indiscriminate dumping of refuse, pleaded not guilty. His case was adjourned to April 3, 2026, for trial.

stressed that open defecation, public urination and improper waste disposal pose serious public health and environmental risks.

He urged residents to adhere strictly to sanitation regulations and make use of approved waste disposal channels, warning that violators would continue to face prosecution in line with the law.
