Cote d’Ivoire to implement closed fishing season in 2023

By Hauwa Ali

As part of fishery management measures, the Ivorian Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources, Hon. Sidi Touré has announced that Cote d’Ivoire will henceforth hold a month-long fishery closed season from 1 July to 1 August annually, beginning in 2023.

This was discussed during a working visit by Ghana’s Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Hon. Mrs. Mavis Hawa Koomson, in Abidjan-Plateau recently.

The visit aim to deepen cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana in fisheries.

The Ivorian fisheries closed season is scheduled to happen simultaneously with Ghana’s to reduce the likelihood of fishers migrating to fish in the neighbouring country during the period.
