Communities Advocate Govt Support for Renewable Energy Research

Communities grappling with the repercussions of climate change are urging government intervention at all levels to back initiatives aimed at developing alternative energy sources.

The goal is to discourage carbon emissions that adversely affect the environment, posing threats to the safety of residents.

This plea emerged from a skill development workshop held in Sokoto state, focusing on promoting renewable energy sources and practices adaptable to climate change. The workshop specifically targeted members of four communities in Kware local government area.

Participating community members received training on an alternative energy source involving a novel technology called charcoal briquettes. This approach aims to combat indiscriminate tree cutting and reduce carbon emissions in the region.

The adverse effects of climate change, such as increased flooding and desert encroachment, have significantly impacted the livelihoods of these communities. The training session is seen as a step towards alleviating their challenges.

The call for government support reflects the recognition of the critical role renewable energy can play in mitigating climate change and preserving the environment.

By endorsing and investing in such initiatives, governments can contribute to sustainable solutions that address both environmental concerns and the well-being of affected communities.
