Commissioner Urges Hygienic Living in Kogi State for Public Health

By George George Idowu

Engr. Joseph Olusegun, the Commissioner for Environment and Ecological Management in Kogi State, has passionately called upon residents to prioritize cleanliness as a crucial factor in maintaining public health.

During a recent environmental cleanup initiative in Lokoja, spanning from the old market to the new market, Engr. Olusegun emphasized the health risks associated with unclean environments, stressing the proliferation of diseases and germs.

The cleanup operation, led by relevant sanitation agencies and the Ministry’s permanent secretary, targeted waste disposal points along road dividers and ensured the clearance of drainages.

Engr. Olusegun underscored the vital role of a healthy environment in fostering productivity and well-being, urging market traders, road users, and the general populace to adopt habits that promote hygiene and a clean environment.

The Commissioner issued stern warnings to individuals disregarding proper waste disposal procedures, emphasizing the potential threats to public health and environmental sustainability.

He highlighted Governor Ododo’s administration’s commitment to curbing environmental degradation, particularly by preventing indiscriminate waste disposal into drainages within and outside the state capital.

Engr. Olusegun stressed the detrimental effects of blocked drainage and sewage lines on water flow, contributing to pollution, flooding, and habitat degradation.

He reaffirmed the state’s unwavering stance on maintaining hygienic environments, signaling stringent repercussions for violators of sanitation laws.

This initiative reflects the state’s dedication to fostering a cleaner and healthier living environment for its residents.
