The Waste Pickers Association of Nigeria (WAPAN) has partnered with Coca-Cola Nigeria to bring generosity and support to waste pickers at the Idu dumpsite, in a memorable event held on December 18, 2023.
Comrade Salisu Ali Yarima, President of WAPAN, expressed gratitude to the Coca-Cola Foundation for their generous contribution, which included 100 sets of waste picker jumpsuit uniforms, 100 cartons of Coca-Cola drinks, 80 bags of rice (5kg each), and 30 jumbo bags. Yarima emphasized WAPAN’s commitment to transparency in distributing these essential items to its members and communities.

The WAPAN Secretary shared with naturenews correspondent the association’s proactive plans to establish a Waste Academy for comprehensive waste management training. Furthermore, WAPAN has implemented a system for registering waste pickers, issuing ID cards and unique color-coded uniforms linked to specific zones, promoting professionalism and safety within the waste management sector.
